FINANCIAL HARDSHIP WORK PERMIT & SSN FOR F1 STUDENT

Work Authorization ( Work Permit ) and Social number for F-1 Visa Student

A "work permit for hardship program" refers to a special authorization granted by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) that allows F-1 visa holders to work off-campus due to severe economic hardship, meaning they are experiencing significant financial difficulties beyond their control, allowing them to work to support their studies when other options like on-campus employment are insufficient; this is often called "Severe Economic Hardship" employment authorization.

Key points about a hardship work permit:

  • Application process:

To apply, students need to contact their designated school official (DSO) and submit a request along with supporting documentation like bank statements, medical bills, and a letter explaining their situation.

  • Work limitations:

Typically, students can work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and full-time during breaks.

  • Renewal:

This work authorization can be renewed if the hardship continues and the student maintains their F-1 status.

  • Who is eligible:

Primarily F-1 visa students who can demonstrate a sudden and significant financial hardship, like unexpected medical bills, loss of financial support, or major currency fluctuations in their home country.
USCIS may authorize an F-1 student to work off campus on a part-time basis after having been in F-1 status for one full academic year if the student is in good academic standing as determined by the DSO

School Transfer

Transfer support for international students to new schools with SEVIS ID transferred on the international student management system We support students in finding new schools that suit their desires for changes in accommodation, career, and learning environment. Exchanges between the new school and the old school ensure that a valid transfer does not affect the student's residence visa status.

Optional practical training - OPT Visa

Optional practical training (OPT) is temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies (pre-completion) and/or after completing their academic studies (post-completion). However, all periods of pre-completion OPT will be deducted from the available period of post-completion OPT.
